Celebrating Our 2nd Birthday

In November 2024, Teen Clinic Daventry turned two years old – a milestone we celebrated with delicious homemade cake baked by our very own Dr Tudor. We also welcomed Mayor of Daventry Cllr Karen Tweedale to the clinic to see first-hand how the service is helping local young people.

Thank you to everyone who has attended and supported Teen Clinic Daventry since we first opened our doors. Here’s to the next two years and beyond!

Helpful Hats

On Saturday 23rd November, pop along to Daventry Museum’s Christmas open day and treat yourself to a cosy handmade hat. Daventry Town Crafters have kindly donated a selection of the wooly hats from this year’s Christmas project, which will be on sale to raise funds for Teen Clinic Daventry. Cash donations only please.

Look out for the crafters’ Christmas tree on the High Street, Daventry this festive season. Hundreds of handmade hats have been transformed into tinsel and bunting to bring some added Christmas cheer to the town.

200 Teens (and counting!) are Helped by Award-Winning Teen Clinic Daventry!

The award-winning Teen Clinic Daventry is celebrating the milestone of supporting 200 young people since it was founded. The clinic offers a free, confidential service for local teenagers, including access to a GP, mental health support, and advice around sexual health and contraception.

The clinic is part of Healthy Young Daventry, a Public Health initiative in collaboration with partners in health and education. The milestone of 200 young people using the clinic highlights the importance of this vital service, which was recently praised as ‘a remarkable centre’ by Chris Heaton-Harris, MP for Daventry. Teenagers can see more than one healthcare professional when they attend, so those 200 visits equate to around 300 clinical contacts.

Louise Townsend explained “Teen Clinic provides a safe space for young people to access a number of services under one roof. Our health professionals support direct referrals if needed, cutting down waiting times. The clinic is so important as it gives young people monthly support options, while they may be waiting for additional support from services that have very long waiting lists.”

This month, the Teen Clinic team will also be presenting a talk at Best Practice London, the leading event for the general practice and primary care industry. The hope is that more communities will be inspired to form their own clinics, helping even more young people access much-needed help and support.

The clinic is currently funded (2023/24) by Daventry Town Council, Public Health West Northants, Northamptonshire Health and Care Partnership and Avon Fund for Women and Girls. The partnership is in the process of exploring funding options for 2024-25 to ensure the clinic can continue to support the health and wellbeing of local young people.

Teen Clinic First Anniversary !

A great time was had at our Teen Clinic Daventry Anniversary Event on Thursday, 26 October, when local teenagers joined us at The Arc Cinema Daventry to help us celebrate one year of the Daventry clinic dedicated entirely to teens.

11 - 18-year-olds were invited to a celebratory event during half-term event that included a free film screening of the 'Haunted Mansion' plus complimentary popcorn and a drink. We also gave out free goody bags, courtesy of generous donations from Sheaf Street Health Food Store Daventry, to the first 30 visitors.

Teenagers in attendance initially watched a short film made by the Teen Clinic Team, which gave insight into how the clinic came to be and were able to meet some of the clinic staff and collaborators. Visitors then enjoyed the primary film screening, described as a supernatural horror comedy, in readiness for Halloween.
