THIS MONTH’S THEME:

Healthy Living

The Teen Clinic theme for January 2025 is Healthy Living.

A healthy lifestyle is a way of living that is promoting good health.

This can be seen through taking proper care of ourselves. From the amount of hours we allow our bodies to rest, what we consume in our diet and how much exercise we partake in.

Overtime, these actions and ways of living become habits, therefore it is important we form healthy habits of living to help prevent us from developing illnesses or poor health.

Get Active

Physical activity should be part of your daily life, whether you play sports, take physical education (PE) classes in school, do chores, or get around by biking or walking. Regular physical activity can help you manage your weight, have stronger muscles and bones, and be more flexible.

Eat well

Healthy eating involves taking control of how much and what types of food you eat, as well as the beverages you drink. Try to replace foods high in sugar, salt, and unhealthy fats with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat protein foods, and fat-free or low-fat dairy foods.

Sleep hygiene

Like healthy eating and getting enough physical activity, getting enough sleep is important for staying healthy.

You need enough sleep to do well in school, work and drive safely, and fight off infection. Not getting enough sleep may make you moody and irritable.

If you’re between 13 and 18 years old, you should get 8 hours of sleep each night.
